00:00PAS risks being burdened with a hard-lined image if technocrats like Vice President Ahmad

00:07Samsuri Mokhtar are no longer part of its leadership, according to an analyst.

00:12Taufiq Yaqub of University Malaya warned that PAS must handle Samsuri's situation carefully,

00:17as he was seen, until recently, as a potential candidate for Prime Minister.

00:22He recalled how PAS's 2015 polls led to the departure of the Erdogan faction, led

00:26by Mohammad Sabu, which formed Amanah after clashing with the more conservative Ulama

00:31bloc.

00:32Taufiq noted that certain factions within PAS are uncomfortable with Samsuri's leadership

00:36aspirations, as he is a more open-minded and professional leader.

00:41Taufiq was commenting after Samsuri suggested on Wednesday that he may not seek re-election

00:46to a post he has held since 2019.

00:48Meanwhile, Hisamuddin Bakar of Ilham Center suggested that Samsuri's recent remarks

00:54indicate frustration over internal personal attacks against him.

00:58He warned that such attacks on the non-Ulama faction could discourage professionals from

01:02joining PAS in the future.

01:04He said this could weaken PAS's internal democracy, limit its leadership diversity,

01:08and potentially erode voter confidence in its ability to govern at the federal level.
