00:00Joe Biden is back. During his speech, he said,

00:03we are facing a threat from some Republican members to cut and gut Social Security.

00:10Do you agree with his criticism of the Trump administration?

00:15Well, as always, I think it's important to get beyond personalities and to get to the facts.

00:19And the facts are that the budget resolutions that have been adopted by Republicans in the House and in the Senate,

00:26they've yet to be reconciled in a final bill.

00:29But the proposals raise the retirement age for Social Security gradually to 69.

00:37And that's an effective decrease in about 13 percent in Social Security benefits.

00:41But I think far more important than that is the actual damaging of the Social Security administration

00:50by that metaphorical chainsaw that has been wielded by Elon Musk and the department,

00:56which is not a department, just a group of advisors called government efficiency.

01:01Far from ensuring efficiency, an already overstretched Social Security staff

01:06has had thousands of people who have either been fired or pushed into resignations.

01:11You've had cuts in some departments of more than 50 percent and others of more than 25 percent.

01:16That is increasing the wait times to deal with Social Security issues, including applications, including payments.

01:24It is causing unnecessary stress on many, many Americans.
