00:00Europe appears to be coming to terms with the fact that it may have to go it alone.

00:06Is the US effectively heralding the end of the NATO alliance?

00:10Let me just say that I'm uncomfortable talking about Europe like it's a single country.

00:18Europe is a collection of countries and one of the principal reasons that European elites

00:25have been able to agree so much in the past and one of the reasons that people are able

00:32to talk about Europe like it's a unified country is because the United States has been present

00:39in Europe and it has kept the peace.

00:42I refer to it and others do as the American pacifier and that mainly comes in the form

00:49of NATO.

00:50But what's happening now is that Trump has made it clear that he has contempt for the

00:56Europeans.

00:58He has little use for NATO and he at least wants to greatly reduce the American presence

01:05in Europe, if not eliminate it.

01:09I'm not saying that will happen, but there's no question that the United States presence

01:13in Europe is going to decrease and Trump is going to turn more responsibility for running

01:19Europe over to the Europeans.
