00:00And, Professor, were you surprised that Donald Trump met Ahmed al-Sharah in Riyadh?
00:06Was that something that the world was expecting?
00:09And is this a big shift, a change in foreign policy for the U.S.?
00:13Actually, it was not so surprising because President Trump wanted to make some recognition
00:22towards the crowned prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman,
00:27recognizing his leadership in the Middle East on one hand.
00:32On the other hand, it's also consistent with, I would say, the recognition of the role of Turkey in the Middle East
00:41because, as you might know, al-Sharah is supported and backed by Turkey.
00:47And since many, many months, Turkey was asking, requesting from the U.S. and from the EU to leave the sanctions.
00:55So, responding to Turkey and having al-Sharah in Saudi Arabia during President Trump
01:01is kind of recognition of the new leaderships of the Middle East for KSA and for Turkey.
01:08So, it's not surprising at all.
