00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London. Farringdon Station, located
00:05in central London, has a rich history dating back to 1863. It originally opened as part
00:11of the Metropolitan Railway, the world's first underground railway, linking Farringdon
00:16to Paddington Station. In the 20th century, Farringdon underwent significant upgrades
00:21to accommodate increasing passenger numbers, especially with the advert of the Thameslink
00:26route in the 1980s connecting Bedford and Brighton through to central London. A major
00:32redevelopment project began again in the early 2010s to prepare Farringdon for the arrival
00:38of Crossrail, now known as the Elizabeth Line, which would enhance its role as a central
00:44interchange for passengers travelling across London. Today, Farringdon is a critical transport
00:50blending its Victorian heritage with modern upgrades.
