This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the week ahead 31/03/2025. High pressure is here and it's here to stay for at least the first week of April, as Aidan McGivern explains...

00:00Hi there, and welcome to the Met Office Week Ahead forecast.

00:03April starts off where March leaves off with widespread dry and sunny weather.

00:09In fact, it's been a remarkably dry and sunny March away from the far north of Scotland.

00:14And on Tuesday, the 1st of April, the sunshine extends into the north of Scotland with this

00:19southeast of the airflow around an area of high pressure.

00:22So yes, some patchy cloud here and there first thing, otherwise it's blue skies across the

00:27board from the north of Scotland to the south of England.

00:30The wind will be brisk, particularly for south-western coasts and hills with 30-35 mph wind gusts.

00:37That's going to make it feel a bit cooler towards the south and south-west.

00:40In fact, the highest temperatures are likely for north Wales, north-west England, parts

00:45of northern Scotland as well, seeing temperatures up to 19, perhaps even 20 Celsius.

00:51The North Sea coast, the English Channel coast affected by that wind, making it feel

00:56cooler.

00:57And it's a cold start actually on Wednesday in many places, a touch of frost here and

01:00there first thing following a clear night.

01:03But as you can see, barely any clouds on the map there, it's blue skies for the vast majority

01:10and feeling warm once again in the same sort of spots, north-western and western parts

01:15of the UK because of this east to south-easterly breeze.

01:18In fact, it becomes a bit more of an easterly as we go into Wednesday night.

01:23And this area of low pressure could influence things in the south-west by Thursday.

01:29That means a bit more cloud arriving into the far south-west, perhaps even the odd shower

01:33into the City Isles.

01:34One or two of these may make their way into Cornwall, perhaps even Devon, but they will

01:38be very fleeting, mostly light and not amounting to much.

01:43The additional cloud in the south-west will make it feel a bit cooler and I suspect we'll

01:47still have this breeze but less strong compared with Tuesday and Wednesday.

01:52And it's a bit warmer as a result across southern parts with 20 to even 22 Celsius possible

01:59on Thursday afternoon.

02:00A marked contrast though on the North Sea coast as we pick up more of an easterly, just

02:0511 or 12 Celsius for eastern and northern Scotland as well as north-east England.

02:09And you'll notice a bit more mist, low clouds, sea fret, har coming into the north-east there.

02:15That becomes more widespread overnight and we wake up on Friday with much more cloud

02:19across parts of eastern Scotland through the central belt, eastern and central England,

02:24perhaps into east Wales as well.

02:25It will start to peel back towards the coast but it's going to take its time and it will

02:29stick around throughout the day across eastern parts of the UK.

02:33A gloomy day to come and feeling notably cold with that North Sea wind for eastern Scotland

02:39and north-east England, 9 Celsius at best.

02:42A stark contrast compared with western parts of the UK where it's another day of warm sunny

02:47skies and temperatures reaching 16 to 19 or even 20 Celsius, a little bit less warm compared

02:55with Thursday.

02:56Thursday is the peak of the temperatures in the south.

02:59Now into Friday that high pressure just sits to the north of Scotland.

03:04Jet stream diverted well to the north but with the high pressure basically hanging around

03:09throughout the upcoming weekend, we continue to see this easterly so I suspect we'll continue

03:14to have some low cloud and cooler conditions on the North Sea coast.

03:17Elsewhere, a lot more sunshine to come, not only through the weekend but also into the

03:22start of next week.
