Hi it's Christy at the Weather Bureau with your national weather forecast for
00:04
tomorrow, Friday the 28th of March. Starting with our synoptic pattern
00:08
through the north, a monsoon trough extending through the north but also
00:11
down into western Queensland. Now this is the weather system that's brought so
00:15
much heavy rain and widespread flooding through inland parts and that will
00:18
continue tomorrow. So if you want more information about this weather system
00:22
make sure you check out our severe weather video also posted today which
00:25
will have all the details. But elsewhere we have a high-pressure ridge through
00:29
the south, now that's bringing settled conditions to southern Australia. Through
00:33
the western an offshore trough which is allowing hot easterly winds to continue
00:37
heatwave conditions along the west coast. And then through the north we have a
00:41
couple of tropical lows. Now this one over in the far west is severe tropical
00:47
cyclone Courtney, that one's moving away from Australia not expected to impact us.
00:50
However tropical low 28u is moving towards the coast and there is a brief
00:55
window where it has a moderate chance of forming into a tropical cyclone. So
01:00
we're watching this one closely. Elsewhere we have a cold front moving
01:03
across the Southern Ocean that will impact Tasmania on Saturday. In
01:08
Queensland we can see widespread heavy rainfall and some thunderstorms
01:12
continuing. Now again mostly through inland parts during the day but as we go
01:16
through the day that heavy rainfall will start to move eastwards and start to
01:19
impact southeast Queensland. Under all this rain and cloud we are seeing
01:23
temperatures well below average up to 10 degrees below average in the south
01:27
but closer to average through the peninsula. Brisbane heading for a top of
01:31
27 degrees with rain increasing during the day as this system moves eastwards.
01:36
Down in New South Wales rain and thunderstorms moving into the northern
01:40
inland initially extending into the central inland and later in the day we
01:45
could see some of that heavier rainfall moving towards the east as well. Once
01:48
again temperatures well below average through the north closer to average in
01:52
the south. Sydney heading for a top of 27, Canberra 24 both expecting showers to
01:57
increase during the day as this system moves southwards. Down in Victoria though
02:02
a mostly settled and warm day with winds tending northerly. We will see cloud
02:06
increasing from the north though as this system gets closer a couple of showers
02:10
perhaps about the ranges or through the north. Melbourne itself though heading
02:14
for a mostly sunny top of 30 degrees. Very settled in Tasmania as well with
02:19
conditions just the chance of a shower along the north coast. Hobart heading for
02:24
25 degrees and mostly sunny. Mostly sunny also across southern parts of South
02:29
Australia with warm conditions. Adelaide heading for 32 degrees however we could
02:34
see cooler and cloudier conditions up in the northeast with the potential for
02:38
some showers or thunderstorms moving across the border. Over in the west warm
02:43
to hot and mostly sunny through southern WA and central parts as well with high
02:48
fire dangers. However during the day as this west coast trough starts to move a
02:53
little bit on shore it will allow some south to southwest lee winds to bring
02:56
slightly cooler conditions particularly to the southwest coast. So Perth heading
03:01
for a top of 35 degrees still hot but not quite as hot as today. And then
03:06
through the north we see this monsoon trough maintaining showers and
03:09
thunderstorms through the northern Kimberley and the top end. We could see
03:12
some locally heavy rainfall with some of those thunderstorms. We could also see
03:16
heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts as tropical low 28u moves towards the
03:21
coast. Now once again there is a brief window for this system where it may turn
03:26
into a tropical cyclone however either way it will still likely bring heavy
03:31
rainfall and damaging winds so a severe weather warning has been issued for this
03:34
area. We also see cloud and light rain and cool conditions through southern
03:38
parts of the Northern Territory. 25 degrees for Alice Springs while Darwin's
03:43
heading for a top of 32 degrees with a shower or two and possible thunderstorm.
03:47
And that's it for our weather update. Make sure you stay up to date with the
03:50
latest forecasts and warnings for your location on the Bureau's website or app
03:54
and we'll see you again soon.
