Hello from the Bureau with your national weather forecast, looking at conditions heading into
00:03
tonight and then tomorrow, Thursday the 5th of December.
00:07
First into this evening, we can expect to see showers and thunderstorms for much of
00:10
eastern Australia and the tropical north.
00:13
There is a possibility of severe thunderstorms tonight for northern New South Wales, central
00:17
Australia and the north, so keep an eye on any warnings.
00:20
For southern Australia though, this ridge of high pressure extending from the east to
00:24
the west is keeping things dry tonight, but heading into tomorrow Thursday, this high
00:28
pressure system will move further out into the east, and that will direct warm northerly
00:32
winds over Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, so temperatures will really start to rise.
00:38
By the afternoon though, showers and thunderstorms will redevelop across much of the eastern
00:41
seaboard.
00:42
Heavy falls are possible all the way into northern Australia, remaining quite hot and
00:46
unsettled.
00:47
The one exception to this though, is across western parts of WA, where cooler southerly
00:51
winds are keeping temperatures below average for this time of year.
00:55
So now, a state by state look, starting off in Queensland.
00:59
Showers and thunderstorms are possible across the entire state.
01:01
Severe thunderstorms are possible inland from areas from Toowoomba to the Darling Downs
01:06
and up into the Capricornia, with the possibility of heavy falls.
01:09
Heavy falls also for the Gulf Coast and Cassowary Coast, including Cairns, but temperatures
01:13
will be a little bit below average under that cloud cover.
01:16
Temperatures closer to average across the southeast of the state, humid, with a possible
01:19
shower storm in Brisbane and Twentynine.
01:22
For New South Wales, showers and storms for the northeast coast in the morning will extend
01:26
to most areas west of the divide by the afternoon.
01:29
There is the possibility of heavy falls with slow moving thunderstorms for the northern
01:33
Tablelands, although along the coast a little bit cooler with that onshore flow, partly
01:37
cloudy in 26 in Sydney, a possible shower storm in Canberra and 31.
01:41
Hot, warm and dry across much of Victoria tomorrow.
01:45
There is the chance of just a shower or thunderstorm across the northeast and far east Gippsland,
01:50
but maximum temperatures will be up to 10 degrees above average, a warm 31 in Melbourne,
01:54
reaching the high 30s up in the Mallee.
01:56
For Tasmania, morning fog across the north will burn off to another warm day, and we
02:01
are seeing low intensity heatwave conditions across inland parts, with maximum temperatures
02:05
yet again climbing into the high 20s.
02:08
Hobart atop of 26, that's the fourth day in a row of temperatures above 25 degrees.
02:13
Hot and unsettled for South Australia, with high fire dangers across southern districts.
02:18
Temperatures well above average for this time of year, but we will see showers and
02:20
storms for central, western and northern parts of the state.
02:24
We're not expecting storms to reach Adelaide until Friday morning, so it will be a very
02:27
hot and sunny day with a top of 37.
02:30
In Western Australia, a little bit cooler with those southerly winds pushing through,
02:34
a few coastal showers, but they will become more isolated into the afternoon.
02:38
Partly cloudy in 26 in Perth, hot across the Pilbara, with extreme fire danger for the
02:42
Exmouth Gulf Coast.
02:44
Finally for northern Australia, showers and thunderstorms continue all the way from the
02:47
Kimberley through the Top End and into the Gulf Country, so there is the potential for
02:51
heavy falls, including for the Darwin area, with a top of 32 degrees.
02:55
That's your latest forecast for today.
