00:00Scenes of destruction as far as the eye can see, with masses of mud covering the ground.

00:08That's the view from above of the municipality of Valencia,

00:12four days after the deadliest natural disaster in Spain's recent history.

00:16Entire areas have come to a standstill, completely destroyed by the flooding.

00:22Here in the west of Valencia, this entire stretch of road has been swallowed up by the water.

00:29Locals have come out in force, doing what they can to help.

00:34In this residential area, abandoned cars are piled up high.

00:39Neighbours watch on, powerless to do anything.

00:43A sense of powerlessness that is made worse by the state of the bridges at the entrance to affected towns.

00:49These are just two examples where connection to the outside world has been completely severed.

00:56Along with the desperate search for those still missing,

00:59rebuilding the transport links as quickly as possible is a priority for the Spanish government,

01:04in order to send in urgent aid and to re-establish essential services.

01:09The first step in a long road to recovery for Valencia.
