Spain deploys soldiers in Valencia to boost rescue efforts

00:00Many homes and cars are still submerged after the catastrophic floods.

00:05Emergency services are using drones and sniffer dogs to help locate survivors and bodies.

00:11We've been here all day pulling out cars, checking there's no one inside.

00:15Many were submerged and it has not been possible to check from the surface.

00:19More than 1,000 Spanish soldiers have already been deployed to help

00:23and 500 more are being sent to the Valencia region.

00:27This comes amid criticism of local authorities for a lack of support

00:31and some residents complained aid was coming too slowly.

00:35There are thousands of volunteers helping with the effort.

00:39There are people injured, there are still people trapped and we have to rescue them.

00:44The emergency services are helping but we want to go and help too because many hands are needed.

00:50The emergency services are finding it very difficult to get in though,

00:54and ambulances are trapped by traffic jams.

00:58While electricity has been restored to most areas,

01:01there are still many people without running water or basic necessities.
