Spain floods: Cleanup efforts enter 5th day as weather agency sounds fresh alert

00:00Absolutely. Well you saw the welcome that the president, the king and the regional

00:04leader received. They were met with cries of murderers, mud was thrown and there

00:09were calls for Pedro Sánchez resignation. That's a sentiment we've

00:13seen echoed everywhere in the past three days. Residents are furious. They say they

00:18were warned far too late on the day of the floods that an earlier warning could

00:21have saved countless lives. They also say that in the days that followed help

00:26didn't come. One resident who I spoke to earlier was moved almost to tears as she

00:33described to me a conversation she had with a soldier in this town Picanha when

00:37the military finally did arrive. She said she went and asked him why did you take

00:40so long to come and she said that his response was that they wanted to come,

00:45they were ready to come, they could have been here in hours but that the order

00:49took days to come and you can just imagine the outrage of all these

00:53residents who have felt left completely alone at times early on in this natural

00:58disaster as they waited for help which they say in the end only really came

01:03from the tens of thousands of volunteers who came off their own bat in their free

01:07time with their own equipment. Now we're hearing that cleanup operations have

01:11made progress but that more rain is expected in the region. I can confirm

01:20cleanup has progressed. As I say those tens of thousands of volunteers have now

01:24handed over to professionals more or less to do the heavy lifting with heavy

01:29machinery. That's because restrictions were placed on movement between Valencia

01:33and its southern suburbs today to prevent those droves of volunteers from

01:38traveling south today. Many roads remain impassable although they have cleared

01:43many of the main ones but there are still car parks, underground multi-story

01:47car parks that remain filled with water and they'll be pumping out that water

01:52for days to come. Obviously at this point hoping not to find any more casualties.

01:59Residents of course have taken cover now because the rain has begun so it's an

02:04extremely demoralizing end to this Sunday which is of course just at the

02:08very beginning of what will be nevertheless a much much longer recovery.
