Hi there, following Thursday's widespread blue skies, it's a very different picture
00:04
out there for England and Wales on Friday with a lot more cloud cover and outbreaks
00:09
of rain. The more persistent rain now moving into parts of North Wales, Yorkshire and Lancashire,
00:15
whilst there will be some persistent rain further south, but increasingly it's breaking
00:18
up into showers and some heavy downpours expected across mid Wales into the Midlands through
00:23
the afternoon, interspersed by some brighter interludes, but a lot of cloud remains. However,
00:29
Scotland and Northern Ireland, that's where the lion's share of sunshine will be, with
00:33
the highest temperatures once more. Western Scotland, 19, perhaps even 20 Celsius, significantly
00:38
cooler for the North Sea coast, some mistiness there for the Northern Isles, and with the
00:43
cloud cover elsewhere, obviously it's going to be temperatures lower than the last few
00:48
days. And those showers will continue into the evening for a time, but eventually they
00:52
die away across southern parts of England and South Wales, with clearing skies here,
00:56
mist and fog will form in places and temperatures will drop away. There will also be some mistiness
01:02
around the north-east coast of Scotland that will start to creep inland. Some of this har
01:07
will persist into Saturday morning. But elsewhere, lots of cloud through central parts, rain edging
01:12
into the far north of England and parts of Northern Ireland by the end of the night,
01:16
staying frost free where we've got the cloud cover, but a touch of frost is possible in
01:19
the south as well as across central parts of Scotland. So Saturday brings with it some
01:25
more changeable weather, low pressure starting to move up from the south, weather fronts
01:30
moving around slowly as well, but high pressure closer to the north of Scotland and that's
01:35
where it will stay settled, albeit rather misty as that har lingers across Caithness,
01:40
Sutherland, parts of Aberdeenshire as well, and the Northern Isles. And we'll also see
01:45
an increase in cloud cover across southern and eventually central parts of Scotland as
01:49
rain moves up from the south. Persistent rain though through much of the day for Northern
01:53
Ireland. Showers pushing in across Northern England and parts of Wales and some showery
01:58
rain moving up from the south-west to affect Cornwall and Devon by the end of the afternoon
02:03
as well. Significantly cooler feel where we've got the cloud and those showers, but once
02:08
again, western Scotland seeing the best of the sunshine and the highest temperatures,
02:12
16 to 18 Celsius expected here. However, you'll notice a change there for Shetland, the first
02:19
signs of colder air moving in from the north and that's going to start to become increasingly
02:25
apparent later Sunday and into the start of next week. But Saturday ends with bands of
02:30
rain or showers affecting many parts of the UK, moving up into eastern Scotland, affecting
02:35
Northern England and then increasingly south-west England as well as Wales. Those bands of rain
02:40
or showers pull away through Sunday as low pressure moves into the North Sea, but I expect
02:47
there'll be plenty more showers to come through Sunday itself. If you're taking part in the
02:50
London Marathon, you can expect a few passing showers, especially early on and then into
02:56
the afternoon as well. But this colder air there quite clearly marked on the graphic
03:01
with winds from the Arctic bringing a significant change across Scotland certainly on Sunday
03:07
and then more widely a return to overnight frosts on Monday and Tuesday across the UK.
