Hello and welcome to the Met Office forecast for the weekend. It's been another week of
00:05
wind and rain for most of us and we started the week with Storm Brendan followed by numerous
00:10
other lows. You might be thinking, when will this weather ever change? The answer is, this
00:15
weekend. Bang on cue, we're going to see sunny days and frosty nights for virtually the whole
00:21
country. Great news if that is your sort of thing. Low pressure still with us on Friday,
00:27
still bringing a few showers. But look at this, it's subtle at first, it's a ridge of
00:32
high pressure, but this ridge is going to transform through the weekend into an enormous
00:36
high across the whole of the UK. Under high pressure in the winter, sometimes you get
00:42
cold, frosty nights and that's how we'll start off the weekend. Temperatures in towns and
00:47
cities at or just below freezing. In the countryside, a few degrees below freezing. So a chill in
00:52
the air, a widespread frost and of course where we see any showers continuing through
00:57
the night and into Saturday morning across northern parts of Scotland, watch out for
01:01
some slippery surfaces because the roads will be below freezing. Seething hail to lower
01:05
levels at first, a blustery day to come in the far north of Scotland and some cloud and
01:10
a few showers into the far southwest of Cornwall. But these are the exceptions for the vast
01:15
majority after that frosty start. It's simply a sunny Saturday, five to nine degrees on
01:20
the thermometer. But watch this high on Saturday night, it becomes even higher, isobars appearing
01:25
there and centred over the UK. Because of the winds coming around the high like that,
01:31
there'll be one or two further showers in the far north of Scotland and perhaps the
01:34
odd shower into East Anglia and that means that a frosty start on Sunday could again
01:39
bring some slippery surfaces in this part of the world. Once more, a widespread frost.
01:44
Temperatures even lower on Sunday morning compared to Saturday morning. We're looking
01:47
at minus two to minus four degrees widely, even lower in some sheltered spots. The blue
01:52
hues there, not rainfall. They are illustrating the widespread frost there to wake up to
01:57
on Sunday. But essentially, it's another sparkling sunny day, a crisp winter day for the vast
02:05
majority. The winds easing for the north of Scotland, showers disappearing, further wind
02:09
and cloud into the far northwest later in the day. But elsewhere, unbroken blue skies
02:14
essentially, five to eight degrees. A cracking weekend to come. There are signs of a bit
02:20
more cloud and higher temperatures for next week. But high pressure building through the
02:25
weekend will finally bring a return to something more settled and that surely is welcome news
02:32
to those who are sick of the wind and rain. You can follow us on social media for all
02:37
the very latest of course or download the Met Office app and head to the website for
02:41
more info. Bye bye.
