00:00I don't need a man to help me get heavy furniture out of my car

00:03Just kidding, my boyfriend does help me a lot and he's great, so thank you Dave

00:06We got this little cutie patootie buffet, sideboard, credenza, buffet, whatever you wanna call it

00:10She doesn't look too bad

00:10Scratches on the top, cat scratches on the side

00:12However, this piece came from a mentally disabled woman living on her own

00:16Who probably shouldn't have been living on her own

00:17So no, she didn't live in the cleanest environment

00:19However, it was free, and the person that went to go pick it up before me was super rude to this lady

00:23If you don't want the item, just leave, you don't have to be rude

00:24But it does need to be sealed, head to toe

00:26We're bringing out the pain, baby

00:27Seems some of y'all are gonna say I ruined it anyway, so let's just go for it

00:29Go big or go home

00:30I'm sorry, I had to fill it

00:30It was just too much of a focal point

00:32And I had better ideas for this piece

00:33I sealed in my filler with kills

00:34And then we got to sanding

00:36This was a thin veneer, so I took out the scratches with 150 and then smoothed with 220

00:39The bottom had a bunch of flaking veneer

00:40And I made a bunch, so I patched that up with bondo

00:42And I taped up my exposed wood and pried

00:44Disclaimer, I only had bullseye 123 at the time, which is a water-based primer

00:47Which was great at helping me see the dings and scrapes that I needed to fix

00:50But like I mentioned before, this piece didn't come from the cleanest home

00:52And although I cleaned it with vinegar and let it sit out for weeks

00:54There was some residual odor and stains

00:56So I gave it two more coats of bench-like primer

00:58We're gonna make the doors the focal point

00:59Dad's using his table saw to cut out the center of the doors

01:01This will give us a cleaner shader cut than a jigsaw

01:03There's just one drawback

01:04Since we're lifting the blade from underneath

01:06The width of the blade does cut into the back of the door

01:08But no big deal, it's gonna be covered later anyway

01:09We just added some bondo to reinforce the corners

01:12I was having trouble getting the center door, which isn't really a door at all

01:14It was glued down, but also the screws were just in a weird spot

01:16So we ended up stripping the screw when we were trying to get it out

01:18But no worries, look at dad being a little influencer

01:20He pulled out this grip-it that he's probably used once in his lifetime

01:23But he has it for emergencies, which is today

01:25Dip a little on the end and you're good to go

01:26Once they were cut and bondoed, it was time to sand them

01:29I tried a couple different techniques, it's all equally annoying to sand the corners

01:32But you gotta do what you gotta do

01:33Then we cut out the backing for the doors and pre-drilled our holes

01:35So it would be easy installation later

01:36Now what's going on that backing?

01:38Burlap!

01:38We painted the backing black

01:39And then glued down the burlap with industrial adhesive

01:41We gave it a good coat of glue, waited for it to get tacky

01:44And then laid our burlap on top

01:45Then I used a J-roll to smooth out any air bubbles

01:47Someone needs to roll this thing on my back

01:48Dave!

01:48Before we could attach the burlap, the doors needed to be painted

01:51Once the doors were done, we had to make a couple other repairs

01:53Like screwing in the back of the dresser

01:54And I finally realized what was causing all that chipped veneer

01:56The wood block that held one of the adjustable feet had split

01:59And there wasn't enough material to just put another one in

02:01So handy dandy dad cut out the rest of it using a multi-tool

02:03Made his own using scrap wood

02:05And replaced the adjustable foot

02:06Fancy, huh?

02:06This bottom trim had to go

02:07Sorry!

02:08We lined up a straight edge and used a circular saw to cut across the bottom

02:11After she was painted, it was time to put her back together

02:13However, these hinges were co-rusting

02:15Ew

02:15So I gave them a good scrub with my best e-bar keeper's friend

02:17And they're shining a little brighter now

02:19Last but not least, we gotta deal with the top

02:20Oh my god, look at that gorgeous O

02:22I want to tie the brown from the burlap back into the piece

02:23So I made a tan wash

02:24And funny enough, I accidentally made it too watery

02:25But it actually worked in my favor

02:26Because it popped out the deep scratches I wasn't able to get with my sander earlier

02:29So I sanded it down again with 220 grit

02:30Then closed off the grain with 400

02:31And then did the tan wash again

02:33And y'all, let me tell you

02:33This top feels like glass

02:35And it's beautiful

02:36Now for the reveal

02:37Dun-da-dun-dun

02:42Let's get another view of that wooden top

02:45That was me dropping dead from how freaking gorgeous it is

02:47Top has been sealed with pot

02:48I updated the hardware with these modern knots

02:50Simple and cute

02:50I think this one just might be my favorite
