Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from
00:07
Sunningdale in Berkshire, venue for the 43rd Curtis Cup. We're at the end of the second
00:19
day, and great news for Katrina Matthews' Great Britain and Ireland team as they lead
00:25
the United States 7-5 heading into the concluding singles on Sunday. The golf played so far
00:34
really has been terrific from both sides. It's really been nip and tuck. They were tied
00:41
at 3-3 overnight. It was then 4.5-4.5 after the opening foursome session on Saturday morning,
00:51
and at one point it looked as though GB and I were going to record a 3-0 clean sweep
00:57
in the four balls on Saturday afternoon. The Americans salvaged a half in the bottom match,
01:06
which means that they're only two points behind going into the last day instead of three.
01:12
But with eight singles matches to come, Katrina Matthews' side only need to pick up three
01:19
and a half points in those encounters to win this contest for the first time since 2016.
01:28
Brooming now is Hannah Darling, the Scots number one. She's won all three of her matches
01:33
so far after being left out of the opening session. She's a terrific prospect, and she's
01:40
certainly shown people down here that she can go all the way to the top when she eventually
01:47
turns professional. Terrific as well to see Lorna McClymont, the other Scot on the team,
01:52
to pick up a point in the afternoon session today. She's had a great couple of years,
02:00
and she's certainly going to have a spring in her step going on to the concluding singles.
02:05
World number one, Lottie Ward, she'll lead out GB and Ireland in the last day session. She'll be up
02:12
against 15-year-old Asterix Talley, followed by Sarah Byrne, who's partnered Ward in the
02:21
foursomes, four balls, in the opening two days. They've been unbeaten, the first pairing to do
02:28
that since the format for this event changed in 2008. Darling, she's up against Anna Davis,
02:34
a former Augusta National Women's Amateur champion, in the third match. But McClymont,
02:40
she's in the penultimate match. It's not done and dusted yet, but Katrina Matthew,
02:46
having already led Europe to two wins in the Solheim Cup, is now chasing more captaincy
02:54
glory in the Curtis Cup. To keep up to date with everything in the golf world,
