00:11Kids, dolphins, porpoises, manatees and whales are mammals that live in water. That is, they

00:22are not fish but mammals. These are porpoises. These are manatees. These are whales. These

00:36are dolphins. They have streamlined bodies and powerful tails, which they move up and

00:45down to propel themselves through the water. Their forelimbs are paddle-like flippers

00:53used for balance and steering. They have no hind limbs. Now let's learn why whales are

01:06not fish but mammals. Kids, if I ask you, are whales fishes or mammals, all of you will

01:15say a fish. But it's not the case. Whales are actually mammals because we know fishes

01:26can breathe inside the water too, through their gills, bails. Whales cannot breathe

01:34inside water. They need to come out of the water to breathe. That is why whales are not

01:42fish but mammals. Also, fish cannot hold their breath for long inside the water. All whales

01:54breathe through the blowhole on the top of their head. That gets air from above the water

02:01to their lungs. The puff of mist produced when whales exhale is called blow. Blowholes

02:15are surrounded by muscles that keep the hole closed underwater and open at the surface.

02:26Some whales can stay underwater up to an hour before coming to the surface to breathe. Kids,

02:42of whales are left in the world. As many people used to hunt them for meat, whale oil and baleen.

02:52Whale oil is called blubber and baleen is a body part of whales which is used to strain

03:12lamps in previous times and baleen was used in clothing. Extensive hunting of whales led to the

03:23extinction of many species of whales. Some species of whales are extinct means not even a single.

03:34That is, not even a single whale of that species is left in the world. Today, whales are protected

03:45and most nations have stopped hunting or killing whales to protect them. Instead,

03:52people are thrilled to see whales, so whale watching is now a profitable business in coastal

04:00communities. So kids, we must ensure protection of every animal species as every animal species
