Oh! It's dark here and I can't see you.
00:04
Oh, wait!
00:06
Hey there!
00:07
Wonder what we do without lights, right?
00:11
So come on, let's talk about light today.
00:15
Zoom in!
00:18
Light is a form of energy made of photons.
00:22
A photon is the smallest unit of visible light.
00:27
Now you ask me, how does light travel?
00:30
Well, light is unique as it behaves both like a particle and a wave.
00:37
That behaves differently with different kinds of matter.
00:41
If light hits an object and passes through it, that object is known as a transparent object.
00:49
Let's do one thing, take a glass of water and switch on a torch.
00:54
See the light passing through?
00:57
Well, this proves that water is transparent.
01:02
There are certain objects through which light cannot pass.
01:06
And it changes its path after hitting the object.
01:10
These objects are called opaque objects.
01:14
Such as wood, the mobile you are using right now and you as well.
01:21
Yeah, humans are opaque as well.
01:25
Some objects allow light to pass through them partially.
01:30
And they are known as translucent objects.
01:33
Such as plastic, butter paper and frosted glass.
01:39
And do you know what travels the fastest?
01:42
No, not a space rocket.
01:45
Well, it's light!
01:48
In vacuum where there is no obstacle, light travels at a speed of..
01:53
..more than 0.1 million miles per second.
01:57
Okay, so the distance between the sun and earth is 93 million miles.
02:04
But it takes only 8 minutes for light to reach the earth.
02:07
That's a whooping speed, isn't it?
02:11
When light travels through different mediums, it slows down and sometimes bends.
02:18
And this bending of light is known as refraction.
02:22
Take a beaker filled with water and place a pencil in it.
02:26
Now look carefully.
02:28
Do you see a bend in the pencil?
02:31
No, no, the pencil didn't bend.
02:35
The light rays just got refracted.
02:39
That's why you see the pencil bent.
02:42
Trivia time!
02:45
Did you know that humans are bioluminescent?
02:48
Which means that they emit light.
02:51
But their glow is 1000 times weaker than what the naked eye can register.
02:59
Light takes approximately 1.2 seconds to reach the moon from the earth.
03:06
So friends, did I not light up your tickling brain cells today?
03:10
Tune in next time for more fun facts.
03:14
This is me Zooming out!
