Local residents have been left angry after a group of travellers evicted from a popular Edinburgh beauty spot
00:07
left the area looking like a bomb site in their words.
00:11
The group of travellers descended on an area of green space popular with locals
00:16
at Silver Nows and Gypsy Bray on June the 10th, as is the case every summer,
00:22
before being given a 28-day eviction notice by the council at the start of July
00:27
and leaving the site last Saturday, August the 3rd.
00:31
However, locals have been left angry at the mess the travellers have left behind,
00:37
with concerns raised about the cost the council incurs every summer to clean up the mess
00:42
and how that money could be used instead to erect barriers to stop travellers accessing the site.
00:49
Local residents told the Evening News that the travellers on the site between Silver Nows and Gypsy Bray this summer
00:56
seem to appear to be gardeners, with lots of garden waste left as well as rubbish scattered around the large piece of land.
01:06
One local resident said his Freedom of Information request revealed it costs the council up to £13,000 each year to clean up the site.
