Azerbaijan's Baku Shipyard: Achieving industrial growth through innovation and sustainability

Elshad Nuriyev, Chairman of Baku Shipyard, explains how the shipyard is driving Azerbaijan's industrial growth and national development.

00:00Baku Shipyard is a part of the industrial ecosystem of the country and it plays an important

00:07role in development of the country itself.

00:11The subsea works for the Shahdeniz project, phase two, was completed and accomplished

00:17by Hankendi Vessel that was constructed in Baku Shipyard.

00:22This project is exporting the natural gas to the European market today.

00:31When I arrived in Baku Shipyard, we set three critical KPIs.

00:35First KPI is to improve the production process by using the technology to eliminate the bottlenecks.

00:42We use the advanced machinery to record the data and analyze the issues.

00:48For example, we use the augmented welding.

00:50It helps us to record the data to provide the efficiency during the welding process

00:56and the third most important is the safety of our employees during the training process.

01:02Second KPI is the upskilling the workers and to improve their efficiency and proficiency,

01:09we cooperate with the local universities like the State Technical University, ADA University

01:16and also the vocational schools.

01:19Third KPI is going green and our shipyard is indeed going green.

01:23The internal transportation within the shipyard is the bicycle.

01:27We also work on installation of the solar panels on the top of our facilities for creating

01:34the autonomous energy system within the plant.

01:37We also have a great water treatment system and the neighboring plants are also connected

01:44to our system because it has improved its efficiency.

01:49And one of the main important components is the R&D, research and development.

01:54This is a focal team focused on human vessel interfaces using the smart sensors to be installed

02:02on ships and they are also using the detailed design programs for in-house engineering.

02:10The labor force, technology and the facility, they're interconnected.

02:15You have to develop them simultaneously to reach the KPIs that you have set.

02:21Baku Shipyard is a heavy industry not only by its physical presence but also heavy industry

02:28because of the complicated components.

02:32Running the shipyard is not a one man show, it's a teamwork.

02:36We achieve and will achieve the goals together with the team.

02:42We have a fantastic team here, a team of engineers, a team of workers, a team of support

02:48and together with this team we can achieve the goals we set.
