How the Herodotus project transformed archives into digital treasures

The Herodotus project aims to preserve and highlight historical archives from Cyprus and the North Aegean. It includes audiovisual, music and collections of local newspaper archives.

00:20 and not neglect them or let them disappear in dust.

00:28 The platform is benefiting not only

00:31 the Pedagogical Institute, the schools,

00:33 the Ministry of Education, but the whole of society,

00:35 because it's a great pathway to our past

00:42 in order to foresee the future.

00:46 We have direct access to audiovisual works,

00:49 to photographs, to newspapers of the past.

00:54 And we can relate to the context of the previous era

01:00 and also the experiences of our ancestors,

01:04 or our grandfathers, our mothers.

01:07 It's very important, because this material can

01:10 be used not only in films, but also in the textbooks

01:17 the Institute creates for the educational community.

01:21 In the past, it had been difficult to use the archive.

01:26 But since the Digital Herodotus platform

01:29 has been available to the public,

01:32 it has been much more easier to have the access and choose

01:36 and then ask for permission to use that material

01:40 in works for schools.
