In today’s episode of ‘How It Went Down,’ Spanish star Aitana shares how she created her new song "AKUREYKI" and making the music video with her co-writer, Colombian star, Sebastián Yatra.

00:13 Well, this is the third song with Sebastián Yatra.

00:17 It seems that we get along quite well in the studio, without a doubt.

00:21 The truth is that I will tell you that Akureyri is a song that we started in Iceland

00:26 on a trip that we both made in 2023 for my birthday.

00:29 We bought a guitar, we went to buy a guitar and Sebastián started trying different guitars.

00:34 I was recording like in the little shop and he started with Akureyri chords.

00:37 Then he started, I don't know, like throwing some verses.

00:44 And then I came up with the melody of

00:51 So I have it recorded in a video, you know?

00:56 And Sebastián told me, "That melody is very beautiful."

00:59 And then we said, "Ah, well, let's start a song."

01:02 We took the guitar and started the song in a car.

01:05 And that's when the first verses and the first melodies of Akureyri began.

01:10 And it ended later in Mexico.

01:12 It's a song that's been around for a long time.

01:14 It's not a typical song that you do in a day or a week.

01:17 It's a song that we did many times and in very different conditions.

01:21 Sebastián is a very versatile artist.

01:23 I mean, he can really make you a song to dance a lot

01:27 and a song to make you cry for a whole week if necessary.

01:31 We are very similar in that.

01:33 We don't focus only on a specific music style,

01:38 but we love pop in all its areas.

01:41 So it's very, very fun to be able to go into the studio with someone

01:44 who doesn't have a specific thing to do,

01:46 but you just let yourself be taken by the inspiration and that's it.

01:49 We finished it and Sebastián liked it so, so, so much

01:55 So it was also like a discussion, "What do we do with the song?

02:34 It was very cold in Iceland and just the week we arrived,

02:45 So we were prepared and we didn't feel so cold.

02:47 And in June, the nice thing was that in Iceland in June,

02:53 So the 24 hours were daytime.

02:56 And I remember that we wanted to take the typical capsule of these,

03:02 and I said to Sebastián, "But how are we going to do that

03:04 if the 24 hours are daytime?

03:06 I mean, we're not going to be able to sleep or see the stars.

03:08 It's going to be impossible."

03:10 So I said, "I have to go back to Iceland to sleep."

03:13 That kind of thing.

03:15 But when we went in March, it was night.

03:17 There were hours of night and everything.

03:19 But in June, no. In June, 24 hours a day.

03:28 It's a pretty strong experience for me too.

03:31 It's been a while since we've released a song together.

03:34 But I think it's the person I've collaborated with the most

03:36 in the six years I've been in the business.

03:38 I don't have three songs with anyone.

03:40 To understand each other well, I'm sure we understand each other well.

03:46 I mean, the process from the time we made the song

03:48 until it came out,

03:52 I mean, we've been through everything, really.
