The government is moving closer to implementing a dual 5G network with the announcement of new Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) board members, said Gobind Singh Deo.
The Digital Minister told reporters after attending the Connected Industries Day: Transforming Manufacturing With 5G And AI event in George Town, Penang on Thursday that although DNB is currently the sole wholesale operator for the country's 5G network, the government's plan to transition to a dual-network system remains steadfast.

00:59 and everyone concerned can take full benefit from 5G technology.

01:07 Currently, yes.
01:09 Will there be a possibility though?
01:11 We've announced that we are asking the government policy to move towards a dual network.
01:16 So there's a possibility that 5G will be more affordable and cheaper?
01:23 Of course, as far as we're concerned, separate network is a separate thing. But there will
01:27 be the position to move towards a dual network.

01:32 Yes.
01:33 That's the government commitment?
01:36 Yes, we've announced that last year and we're moving towards that now.
01:40 But before this, it was reported that after the 80% of coverage, there will be the dual network?
01:46 Not yet. That is one of the conditions. So that has been met. We are now currently at
01:50 80.5% as of March this year. The next thing that needs to be done is the board of directors
01:56 has to be constituted. And I think there's an announcement this morning made by ENB with
02:00 the names of the people who are moving forward from there. And they will have to look at
02:06 the due diligence that is currently being prepared. And once they do that, then of course
02:12 move towards completing the transaction. But we'll issue a statement when that happens.
