00:00 Hello, it's almost the weekend and well there will be some rain around, of course, we've
00:05 been used to wet weather recently, but there will also be something a bit drier at times.
00:09 We end the week with relatively warm air across much of the UK, the far north seeing something
00:15 a little bit chillier, but many places ending the week on a mild note. And as we go through
00:19 Friday there is a feature pushing its way through, plenty of showers around and some
00:23 of those could turn heavy, possibly even thundery, particularly in the southeast. But later Friday,
00:29 night into Saturday, we see a ridge of high pressure building and that is going to quieten
00:33 our weather down a little bit. So most of those showers will clear away and die out
00:37 and so it's actually looking largely dry and clear as we go into Saturday morning. As well
00:42 as that, notice the wind direction coming in from the north, so we will bring something
00:45 a little bit chillier across many parts of the country. As a result, we're going to start
00:50 Saturday on a bit of a chilly note. There may be some fog around in a few spots and
00:54 also a touch of frost, particularly towards the north across parts of Scotland, the shelter
00:58 glens for example, but possibly even parts of northern England and Northern Ireland too.
01:03 Further south, a little bit milder, so most places staying a few degrees above freezing
01:07 here. As we go through Saturday itself though, yes, a bit of a chilly start. Once any fog
01:12 clears away though, it should be a pretty fine, well, much of the day across Scotland
01:17 and northern and eastern parts of England. A different story further west and southwest,
01:21 here we will see clouds spilling in as we go through the day and some outbreaks of rain.
01:25 Initially, the rain won't be particularly heavy as this frontal system hits that ridge
01:30 of high pressure that I mentioned. It's going to be fairly weak, but later on we will see
01:35 a secondary feature coming in and it's this that's likely to bring some heavier, more
01:39 persistent rain as we go through the afternoon and into the evening. We are going to have
01:43 milder air pushing its way back in, so after a chilly start, temperatures for many will
01:47 be recovering. Highs of around 14, 15 Celsius, perhaps a touch higher than this towards the
01:52 south, though not necessarily feeling particularly warm as things cloud over and we start to
01:56 see the winds strengthening a bit as well. Later on, as we go through Saturday evening
02:00 and overnight into Sunday, the weather system that's bringing the rain later on from the
02:05 southwest makes its way from west to east across the UK. As a result, we're going to
02:09 wake up on Sunday morning with a bit of a wet start across some eastern parts, but much
02:14 of that rain will clear away as we go through the morning and then behind it, for many,
02:18 it's actually looking largely dry. Yes, there will be some outbreaks of rain around, particularly
02:23 towards northern western parts of Scotland, perhaps the far west of Northern Ireland too,
02:26 and a few spots are possible elsewhere. And there will be more cloud around compared to
02:31 Saturday when you look at northern and eastern areas where it should be largely blue skies,
02:36 but on Saturday, but for many on Sunday, it will be generally quite dry. Notice though,
02:42 towards the southwest later on here, we are going to have some wet and windy weather pushing
02:46 its way in and also towards the northeast of the UK. We could have some strong winds
02:50 on Sunday too. Elsewhere, the winds shouldn't cause any major problems. Temperatures could
02:54 be a little bit higher on Sunday compared to Saturday, so particularly towards the south,
02:58 likely to get into the mid teens, possibly the high teens in some places. So feeling
03:02 warm in any bright or sunny breaks as we go into next week and likely to get off to a
03:07 bit of a changeable, perhaps unsettled start on Monday. Bit of uncertainty about that and
03:12 then another area of low pressure set to sweep in from the west, bring more wet and windy
03:16 weather as we go through Tuesday, Wednesday times. What happens thereafter? Well, a bit
03:21 of uncertainty, but there are some signs that we could see something a little bit drier,
03:24 perhaps even a little bit colder too, but we will keep you up to date with that as we
03:28 get nearer the time. Now, this coming Sunday is the spring equilux and this is the day
03:34 where we are closest to having 12 hours of daylight. So after the equilux, days become
03:39 longer than nights. At spring, the equilux happens a few days before the equinox. Now,
03:45 the equinox is happening on the 20th of March this year. Often it's the 21st and it would
03:50 have been if this wasn't a leap year, but because it was, we had an extra day in February
03:54 and so the equinox is happening on the 20th. The equinox is the start of astronomical spring
03:59 and it marks the point where, when viewed from Earth, the centre of the sun crosses
04:04 the equator. Now, we're often taught that the equinox is when day and nights are equal
04:10 to length and so when days become longer than nights, but actually because the sun appears
04:15 as a disc in the sky and so rather than a dot, once the top of the sun pops its head
04:22 above the horizon at sunrise, we start getting daylight earlier than the centre of the sun
04:28 pops its head above the horizon. As well as that, we get a bit more daylight too at the
04:32 end of the day for a similar reason at sunset. So that's why in spring, the equilux, the
04:38 day when we have equal day and night, comes a few days before the spring equinox and in
04:43 autumn it's the other way round. The equilux comes a few days after. Otherwise, whatever
04:47 you're up to this weekend, I do hope you have a great one. Remember you can stay up to date
