It's Chiara from Stock Journal. We're here at the Jamestown sheep market.
00:03
Let's find out how people think the sheep market is.
00:06
Jack Coleman from Elders Port Augusta here at the Jamestown sale for the 22nd of February 2024.
00:12
We've got about 11,000 sheep on offer today, mainly weather lambs.
00:16
The sheep market in general has softened over the past four weeks,
00:20
which is probably due to more mother nature than anything.
00:23
I think the outlook is still very positive into the winter,
00:26
but just for the short term we may just see a bit of a downturn.
00:29
But I think a bit of positivity through the job and it's not far around the corner.
00:34
Hello, I'm Brian Manuel from Nutri and Clare here at Jamestown today to try and buy some
00:40
lambs for the feedlot. The current trend at the moment is typical for the summer.
00:45
Lambs are starting to dry out, feed is starting to disappear.
00:48
The actual lamb market is holding up pretty well considering what it was pre-Christmas.
00:54
But overall it'll be an interesting day today.
00:58
It's Curly Golding from Nutri in Oxton up here at Jamestown today in 39 degree heat,
01:03
trying to find a bit of shade.
01:06
The industry at this present time is at an interesting stage.
01:10
There's some numbers starting to come around, which is forcing a lower price over the hooks.
01:17
But listen, I think that's going to be short-lived.
01:19
It's been in turmoil up and down all over the shop for the last probably four to five months.
01:25
It'll probably continue that for the next month, but I see some sort of
01:29
price rising activity after ANZAC Day probably.
01:33
And I think we'll have more of a direction of where we're going then.
01:35
Shannon Jeske, Nutri in Jamestown here in South Australia.
01:38
I think in the whole, obviously with that summer rain, certainly responded to the job
01:42
and positivity is a lot higher than it was back last year.
01:45
So numbers coming from the west is certainly having an impact in the eastern states and locally.
01:50
But yeah, I think going forward, I think we're in a positive scenario.
01:54
An early season break will certainly kick the job along breeding-wise,
01:58
but I think the land drop's certainly got some upsides to it once things do change
02:02
over the winter.
02:03
And quality is going to be a factor the whole way through, I think.
02:06
So there's certainly some positivity in the job,
02:07
but on the back of rain will certainly change the market, I'd say.
