00:00
Hi, I'm Stephen, National Worlds Digital Trends Writer,
00:03
and welcome back to the first Screenbabel Weekend Watch of 2024.
00:08
I'll be talking you through the best TV shows and films to watch
00:12
on streaming, in cinemas, and on television this weekend and beyond.
00:16
We kick things off on Friday the 5th of January with Good Grief.
00:20
This is a Netflix movie directed, starring, written by Dan Levy,
00:25
so if you're not a fan of his, then probably best to avoid.
00:27
But he stars as Mark, whose world shatters when his husband dies unexpectedly
00:33
and sends him and his two best friends on a soul-searching trip to Paris,
00:37
where they both realise, they all realise, I should say, some truths
00:42
that they each need to face.
00:44
Again on Friday, we have James May, Our Man in India.
00:47
This is the third James May series, the first two being Our Man in Japan,
00:52
the second Our Man in Italy, where he travels around the titular country,
00:56
getting involved with the culture and the people there.
00:59
This is a three-episode series coming to Amazon Prime all in one go.
01:03
Again on Amazon Prime on Friday, we have Faux.
01:07
This is a fantasy romance film starring Paul Mascal and Sasha Ronan.
01:13
They play Hennen Jr., a couple who live on a secluded farm
01:18
that's been in Juniors family for generations, but their quiet life
01:21
is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger turns up
01:26
with a startling proposal.
01:29
On Sunday, we have the return of the Great Pottery Throwdown for Season 7.
01:34
You know the drill now, 12 budding potters compete to become the best
01:39
at the wheel on the Channel 4 competition show.
01:42
Episodes will be airing weekly on Channel 4 at 7.45pm on Sundays
01:48
and will be available to watch on Channel 4 Online after their first broadcast.
01:53
Another Channel 4 show, this is a one-off, is I Am Andrew Tate documentary episode.
01:59
It's the explosive story of Andrew Tate's rise, his arrest in Romania,
02:05
and his fall.
02:07
It looks at where the most googled man has come from and asks whether he's
02:13
a misunderstood internet star or a dangerous icon and symbol of toxic masculinity
02:19
in the modern age.
02:21
That's 9pm on Channel 4 on Sunday, and again will be on Channel 4 Online
02:26
after it's first aired.
02:28
On Tuesday the 9th, we have Surreal Estate Season 2 coming to Sky Sci-Fi
02:33
at 9pm.
02:35
All 10 episodes will also be on Sky in one go.
02:39
The series is about home buyers who find themselves in need of paranormal assistance.
02:45
The Roman Agency, led by Luke Roman, is back again to battle with ghosts
02:51
and demons that haunt the houses they are trying to get rid of and sell.
02:57
And then on Wednesday we have Marvel's first project of 2024,
03:03
which is Marvel's Echo.
03:05
This is a miniseries coming to Disney+, five episodes which will all be released
03:09
in one go.
03:11
Alacqua Cox returns as Mayor Lopez, whose alter ego is the superhero Echo.
03:16
One of Marvel's first deaf superheroes, she was introduced to the MCU
03:20
in the Disney+ series Hawkeye.
03:23
In this series we see Echo face up to her past and reconnect with her Native
03:28
American roots, embrace the meaning of family and community in hopes of moving
03:33
forward following the events of Hawkeye.
03:37
Now also, I almost missed this, but The Traitors Season 2 is finally coming back
03:42
after the first season, which was a mega success for the BBC in 2022.
03:48
So Season 2, once again hosted by Claudia Winkleman and once again set at
03:53
Andros Castle in the Scottish Highlands.
03:58
We'll see a group of regular people split into traitors and faithfuls competing
04:03
in a series of challenges with the hopes of winning an up to £120,000 prize pot
04:09
if they can get rid of all of the traitors.
04:12
The first episode aired on BBC One on Wednesday at 9pm, but episodes are airing
04:19
every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening over four weeks with 12 episodes
04:23
in total.
04:25
The rest of the season will be available to watch on iPlayer after they have
04:28
first aired.
04:30
So it's a big week for the first week back.
04:33
That's everything you need to know for what's on over the weekend and beyond.
04:37
Thanks very much and join me again next week for more weekend watch
04:40
recommendations.
04:41
