Hi, I'm Stephen. I'm National World's Digital Trends Writer,
00:03
and I'm here with another episode of ScreenBabble Weekend Watch.
00:06
So I'll be talking you through what to watch this weekend and beyond
00:09
on TV, streaming, and in the cinemas.
00:12
So as I discussed at length in the main podcast,
00:15
Masters of the Air comes to Apple TV.
00:17
You should definitely check out the main podcast for more info on that.
00:20
But essentially, it's another Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg co-production
00:25
following a group of American fighter pilots during the Second World War.
00:29
And their experience of the brutality of warfare
00:34
as they go to war over the skies of Germany.
00:38
There's nine episodes in the series.
00:40
The first two episodes come to Apple TV on Friday the 26th of January,
00:44
and then later episodes will be released weekly.
00:48
Also coming on Friday is Ex-Pats Season 1.
00:52
This is an Amazon Prime six-part drama
00:55
that takes a look at the personal and professional lives
00:58
of a tight-knit group of expats living in Hong Kong.
01:01
It stars Nicole Kidman, among others.
01:04
There's two episodes coming out on Friday,
01:07
and then the rest will come out weekly,
01:09
which seems to be a bit of a theme with streaming services nowadays.
01:13
And then on Friday again, we have The Color Purple coming to cinemas.
01:18
This is a musical remake of the classic Spielberg film
01:22
that starred Whoopi Goldberg.
01:24
This time we have Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, and Colman Domingo in the cast.
01:30
Again coming to cinemas on Friday, All of Us Strangers.
01:34
This is definitely going to be one to watch.
01:36
I'm going to get there myself to see it.
01:38
It's a fantasy drama with Andrew Scott, the hot priest from Fleabag,
01:42
and Paul Mezcal, who you'll know from Normal People.
01:45
So Andrew Scott's character returns to his childhood home after many years away,
01:50
and he finds that his parents are living the same life they did
01:53
when they died 30 years previously,
01:55
and he sort of reunites with them as he develops a relationship
01:59
with Paul Mezcal's character as well.
02:03
Then over on ITV on Sunday, we have the long-awaited Triggerpoint Season 2.
02:09
This sees Lana return from working defusing bombs in Ukraine
02:13
to lead a sort of terror awareness conference,
02:16
particularly on bomb-related terrorism,
02:19
when, surprise, surprise, a bomb is detonated in London
02:23
as the conference is taking place,
02:25
and this sets off another hunt for those responsible.
02:28
Six episodes in this series.
02:30
It'll be coming to ITV1 weekly at 9 p.m. on Sundays,
02:35
and will be available to watch on ITVX after episodes have aired too.
02:40
And then we have on Monday, The Greatest Night in Pop.
02:44
This is a Netflix music documentary
02:48
about the recording of We Are the World
02:50
by the massive mega group at the time that recorded it
02:54
as part of Live Aid, as well alongside Do They Know It's Christmas Time?
02:59
It's basically the true story of how the stars put their egos aside
03:05
to come together for, I guess, the greater good
03:08
to help with that terrible famine in the 1980s.
03:12
We have a couple of projects coming to Netflix on Tuesday.
03:16
So we have NASCAR Full Speed Sports Documentary,
03:19
which will be popular, especially among those who liked F1 Drive to Survive.
03:24
And we also have Jack Whitehall's new stand-up routine, Settle Down,
03:28
which comes to the platform and follows him recently becoming a father,
03:33
so likely will follow the fact that he's settled down and become a family man.
03:37
And then, of course, one to watch out for is The Return of the Apprentice,
03:42
which comes back on Thursday, the 1st of February.
03:45
Episodes will air weekly at 9 on BBC1 and will also be available on iPlayer.
03:51
Karen Brady and Tim Campbell will return as Alan Sugar's aides,
03:55
and of course there'll be a group of frightfully painful, infuriating contestants
04:00
who think they are all the best thing since sliced bread
04:03
competing for Alan Sugar's £250,000 investment,
04:08
which is probably being greatly reduced due to the effects of inflation
04:11
and the cost of living crisis.
04:13
And on that cheery note, that's all from me.
04:15
Thanks for listening and join me again next week for more weekend watch recommendations.
04:20
Thank you.
