Hi and welcome back to another episode of Screenbabel Weekend Watch. I'm Stephen,
00:04
National Wales Digital Trends Writer, and I'll be walking you through what's on TV,
00:08
at the movies, and on streaming this weekend and beyond. So quite a fun week this week,
00:14
but we're kicking it off on Friday with an atomic bomb series, well, an atomic bomb movie.
00:20
Einstein and the Bomb is a documentary film following Albert Einstein's time after leaving
00:27
slash being expelled from Germany, as he works on theories that would later be used to develop the
00:35
atomic bomb. It's a sort of 70-minute special documentary film. In cinemas on the 16th,
00:43
we have Danish movie The Promised Land, starring the one and only film star of Danish cinema,
00:51
Mads Mikkelsen. He plays Ludwig Kaelin in a sort of mid-18th century historical biopic.
00:59
It follows Kaelin, the Danish captain and agriculturalist in Denmark, who is pursuing
01:06
his lifelong dream to develop the Jutland Heath to bring himself wealth and honour.
01:12
Also on Friday, we have season two of Life and Death, and that's all 10 episodes coming to Disney
01:19
Plus. It follows Beth and John's relationship as it grows more serious. Beth begins to consider
01:26
marriage and having a family as she and John seek answers to their communication problems.
01:31
It stars Amy Schumer and Michael Cera, as it did in the first series.
01:36
And then this is one I'm quite excited about, embarrassingly. The Grand Tour returns with
01:40
Sand Job on Amazon Prime, again on Friday the 16th. For the latest adventure, Jeremy, James,
01:46
and Richard travel to the remote country of Mauritiana in West Africa. Their challenge is to
01:53
go on the iconic Paris-Dakar race, but they'll be using secondhand sports cars. Jeremy opts for a
02:00
Jaguar F-Type V6. Richard goes with an Aston Martin Volante V12, and James goes for a Maserati.
02:10
On Sunday the 18th, as discussed in the main podcast, we'll have The BAFTAs, which airs on
02:16
BBC One from 7pm. It's not live, but it is almost live. It sort of airs slightly after the ceremony
02:24
starts, so you may hear about some of the winners before they're announced on the show. The awards
02:30
ceremony will be hosted by David Tennant, and there'll be various celebrity award presenters
02:36
as well, such as David Beckham. As was discussed, there'll be a watch along with National World as
02:43
well, as it airs. Also on Monday, another fairly heavy series, we have Breathtaking, an ITV drama
02:51
about the COVID-19 pandemic. It airs at 9pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening. It's a
02:57
three-parter, and it pays tribute to the work and sacrifices of the NHS staff during the pandemic,
03:03
and reveals the reality of hospital life in the face of such a huge challenge, probably the
03:09
biggest challenge in the NHS's history. On Monday, we have Panorama Special, Hamas's
03:16
secret financial empire, that airs on BBC One at 8pm. It follows an investigation into Hamas's
03:26
network outside of Gaza, and uncovers a web of shady financial enablers who have supported Hamas
03:36
through their terror attacks on October 7th, and indeed their activities before and since.
03:43
On Tuesday the 20th, we have Joe Lycett vs. Sewage at 9pm on Channel 4. Lycett investigates the
03:49
mind-boggling quantities of untreated sewage that are dumped in our waterways every day,
03:53
and he takes the fight to the water companies in his own tongue-in-cheek comedic style.
03:58
Then lastly, Wednesday the 21st, again as discussed in the main pod, go back and listen
04:05
if you haven't, we have Constellation coming to Apple TV. The first three episodes arrive on the
04:12
21st, and then there'll be five more episodes released weekly on Wednesdays. It's a sci-fi
04:17
series with Noomi Rapace as an astronaut trapped on the ISS following a malfunction after
04:26
investigating a new state of matter. When she comes back to Earth, she realises that her reality
04:31
and memories seem to have been affected by her time on the space station. Jonathan Banks, known
04:36
for playing Mike Amatrout in Breaking Bad, also stars as a bigwig at Mission Control, definitely
04:44
one to watch, a great sci-fi mystery. That's all from me, thanks very much for listening to this
04:49
week's Weekend Watch. Join me again next weekend for more recommendations. Thank you.
