00:05 Kenny Pickett suffers an ankle injury early on in that game for the Steelers.
00:10 Dr. Chow, how much time do you expect Pittsburgh's starting quarterback to
00:14 potentially miss?
00:16 Well, he came into the game with a right ankle injury and on the plant and
00:20 cut before he got towards the goal line, re-injures that right ankle and
00:25 it's said to potentially be surgery.
00:27 I don't think it's a tightrope surgery.
00:29 It wasn't that high ankle, but he's likely going to undergo an ankle scope
00:33 and cleanup.
00:34 So it's a couple weeks at least.
00:36 Hopefully he can avoid injured reserve, but the Steelers really need him there
00:39 and Trubisky didn't fare so well coming in as the backup.
00:44 Doc, let's keep it with quarterbacks here and particularly in the Keystone
00:47 State, the Philadelphia Eagles.
00:49 They say, like, well, yesterday Brock Purdy came in, played extremely well,
00:52 was healthy, and Jalen Hurst for most of that game.
00:54 Here's what I need to know from you.
00:56 The concussion check here.
00:57 A lot of times we see the quarterback go into the blue tent, he gets checked
01:00 out and runs back onto the football field.
01:02 They did that check, but then also ran Jalen Hurst off the field into the
01:06 locker room.
01:07 What is that sort of sequence here and is it a two-tester giving out and how
01:10 did they get him cleared to come back into a game?
01:13 Well, it is a little bit unusual to not pass the screen in the blue medical
01:20 tent, go into the locker room to get the full evaluation, and come back.
01:26 It's not impossible.
01:27 It's not against the rules.
01:29 It's just typically if there's enough worry on the screen that you get the
01:33 full test, the results are not always positive or most times are negative,
01:38 you know, err on the side of caution, et cetera.
01:40 I'm not saying there was any funny business there.
01:42 There's a red hat there that's not affiliated with the Eagles even though
01:45 it's in the Philly area, and that person has to agree with the return.
01:52 So you screen, you can't do the full check in the blue tent.
01:56 That's just the screening.
01:58 So there was enough concern on the screening to get the full test, but he
02:01 came back, so I guess that's good news.
02:04 Staying with the quarterback position, Dr. Challey, great nursery rhyme,
02:08 head, shoulders, knees, and toes, but you never want to add up all of that
02:12 on the injury report.
02:14 That's the story for New Orleans quarterback Derek Carr, also entering
02:18 the freshman season, not only with some protocol, but injuries as well to the
02:22 shoulder and the back.
02:24 What is your main area of concern, Dr. Chal, when it pertains to Derek Carr,
02:28 the quarterback for the Saints?
02:30 Well, it's going to be his head because that's the unpredictable.
02:34 It was a big hit to his chest, ribs, upper back, shoulder, but as I tweeted
02:40 and we put out in game, it looks like he's very much more hurt than injured
02:45 there.
02:46 Painful, I'm not calling him soft, but it's very painful.
02:49 A lot of things to deal with, stiffness, soreness, but it's the concussion that
02:53 will prevent him from playing potentially next week.
02:56 22% chance of clearance.
02:58 He did have an issue earlier this season, so you have to think there's going to
03:02 be more caution here where it's going to be Jameis Winston next week.
