DMW, planong lagyan ng confidential funds para labanan ang mga scammer
Transcript
00:00 The majority of the Senate agreed to give confidential funds to the Department of Migrant Workers.
00:05 This is the reason behind the fight of the scammers, the OFWs.
00:09 Daniel Manalasta is the reporter.
00:11 In the meeting of the Department of Migrant Workers in the budget hearing in the Senate,
00:19 the fight for the OFWs continues,
00:22 despite the approval of their secretary, Tuts Ople,
00:26 who is one of the senators who gave confidential funds to the DMW
00:30 as a fight against illegal recruiters and other abuses to the OFWs.
00:35 Maybe we should start with a small amount, I don't know, 25 million?
00:39 50 million? There are hundreds of millions, I'm not joking.
00:42 Maybe we should, to be fair to everyone, give this to the DMW.
00:47 Not because I'm teasing the DMW, just because I saw the need.
00:52 There are a lot of people who are temporarily here. The fight for the OFWs,
00:56 before they left, they were already being chased.
00:59 A lot of people are being fooled.
01:01 According to Tulfo, this will also help to improve the trust.
01:05 The DMW replied, "There's no problem if there are confidential funds that will be given to them."
01:12 The scammers are getting bigger and bigger because they know that the OFWs have a lot of money.
01:17 They have a lot of savings.
01:18 So why not give them confidential funds to trick them?
01:23 We had initially proposed a tier 1, 10 million pesos, confidential fund,
01:29 but it was not included in the NEP.
01:32 But of course, we do not conduct arrests.
01:36 We are not armed.
01:38 We also rely on the prosecutorial service.
01:44 You should all be pro-OFW entirely.
01:49 I heard a story before, Mr. Chair, that your people were present.
01:57 Clean that up.
01:58 To the confidential fund, remove that.
02:00 You should resign that.
02:02 Although Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva did not agree to give confidential funds to the DMW,
02:09 but he said that this should be proven first that it really needs to be done.
02:13 If we are to put up a confidential fund, it's okay with me,
02:17 but I have yet to see the rationale and basis for it.
02:23 I am more than willing, not only 10 million, 20 million, you convince me.
02:29 Meanwhile, Senators also agreed to talk about a new policy or guidelines of IACAT or Interagency Council Against Trafficking,
02:37 which was first discussed, as well as new requirements for Filipino travelers leaving the country.
02:45 Senators asked,
02:47 Is this IACAT guidelines? Is this useful?
02:50 This ****.
02:52 Are we protecting our fellow Filipinos?
02:55 The POGO.
02:57 God, we will be talking about this for the rest of our lives.
02:59 I will tell you one by one how many crimes the POGO committed that were given visa lease.
03:05 We were consulted only in the OFW sector.
03:10 We were not consulted in other sectors like non-OFWs, like tourists, students, businessmen, residents, blah, blah, blah.
03:19 But the good thing is, Mr. Chair, we as members of IACAT can raise this.
03:26 We can still raise this as part of our mandate to protect not only the OFWs,
03:31 but including the family members of the OFWs.
03:35 When DMW officials asked about what happened in Morocco,
03:40 according to the government, they have not yet been able to say anything about the OSWs affected.
03:45 Daniel Manalastas for the Morning Show of the Nation, Rise and Shine, Philippines.
