00:00The sun may be shining over Malabon and Navotas today, but it's a classic case of calm above, chaos below,

00:06as floodwaters have turned many barangays into a sea of trouble.

00:10R. Isaiah Mirafuentes tells us more.

00:14The sun was shining brightly over Malabon and Navotas today,

00:18but many barangays in the cities were still submerged in deep floodwaters.

00:23Right at the entrance of Navotas, the sea looks like a giant swimming pool.

00:27Mula dito kung saan ako nakapuesto ngayon, hanggang binti ko pa lang yung tubig.

00:31Pero ayon sa mga residente, kapag dinediretso daw namin ito, aabot na sa hanggang dibdibang tubig.

00:38We try to enter the area where the flooding is worst.

00:42The said barangay, now only accessible by boat.

00:46Residents' home, already full of floodwater.

00:49Arlene just tears at flood.

00:51Feeling the burden it was brought to their community.

00:54Tapos yung mga naghahanap buhay, mahirap po.

00:59At tulad namin, nagtitinda kami ako, nagsiservise ako ng manicure pedicure.

01:03So, sino magpapalinis sakin? Wala.

01:05The youth continued playing basketball despite the flood.

01:09This store has been flooded too.

01:12The children are enjoying themselves as though their summer vacation just got extended.

01:17They've torn the streets into their own little beach.

01:19In Malabon, many roads were also flooded.

01:23Even the area in front of the city hall was not spared.

01:27A broken floodgate coinciding with high tide is being blamed for the flooding in Malabon and Navotas.

01:33The broken floodgate is the same one that malfunctioned last year when typhoon karina caused severe flooding in both cities.

01:40Last year kasi, di ba nadaanan siya ng fishing vessel.

01:45So ngayon, tingin ko nag-deteriorate na rin yung floodgate natin kaya nagkaroon na rin ng mga malfunction siya.

01:52At present, repairs to damage floodgate are ongoing.

01:56Target is to finish repairs by the first day of July.

01:59The local governments of Malabon and Navotas are also providing free transportation to residents.
