00:00In boxing, former world title challenger Jonas Sultan is set to return to the ring as he faces former sparing partner Katsuma Akitsugi
00:08in a 10-round bout scheduled on July 12 at the Save Mart Arena in Fresno, California, USA.
00:14Sultan has been inactive for over a year with his last fight taking place in Japan back in February of last year.
00:20A 27-year-old Japanese boxer based in the U.S., Katsuma Akitsugi, holds an unblemished record of 12 wins, including three by knockout.
00:28Katsuma Akitsugi's most recent victory came in 2024 when he scored a sixth-round knockout against Filipino former world title contender Aston Palikte.
00:38Sultan, a former member of the famed Alabak Singjim, rose to prominence in 2017 after defeating John Riel Casimero via unanimous decision in an IBF Superflyweight title eliminator held in Cebu City.
00:51That win earned him a world title shot against Jerwin Ankahas in 2018, but he lost via a lopsided unanimous decision.
00:59In 2022, Sultan made another attempt at a world title, challenging for the interim WBO Bantamweight belt, but fell short against Paul Butler.
01:08Now, Sultan is training hard at the wildcard gym, working alongside big names in Philippine boxing, including Manny Pacquiao, Mark Magsayo,
