Omb. Martires, dinepensahan ang ahensiya laban sa mga kritisismo;

Comelec, nagbabala sa vote buying sa social media
Transcript
00:00 The Ombudsman defended their agency against criticism.
00:05 In the budget hearing in the Senate, the Ombudsman assured that they will use the Pano Calang Pondo for the next year
00:12 to further strengthen their service.
00:15 Mela Lesmora in the report.
00:17 We can satisfy everyone.
00:22 As right now, the Ombudsman is under attack from some sectors
00:28 saying that we should have not removed from the service an honest person.
00:34 A person has a lot of accomplishments.
00:38 But let me just say this that
00:42 a person who is honest does not mean that he does not violate the law.
00:53 This is what the Ombudsman Samuel Martirez said against the criticism that was thrown at their agency.
01:01 He said this in front of congressmen when they discussed yesterday in the House their Pano Calang Pondo for the next year.
01:10 The Ombudsman is asking for more than 5 billion pesos for 2024.
01:15 Part of their plan is to add more lawyers and IT personnel to strengthen their service.
01:26 In the discussion, the issue of corruption in the government was raised and the Ombudsman has a reason to include it.
01:35 Corruption will not stop in our country.
01:38 Not even during our lifetime.
01:41 Unless we change ourselves.
01:44 Unless we change our values.
01:47 We have to introduce, as I've always been saying,
01:50 a subject from kindergarten until college on God-centered values formation.
02:00 If we are only going to teach good manners and right conduct
02:05 that is not centered on God, I have nothing to do with it.
02:09 I will look into this. If we can make an educational law
02:14 that the values centered on God should be included not only in the higher education curricula
02:25 but also in the basic education.
02:28 This is very important.
02:30 The Ombudsman also followed the Commission on Elections in front of the camera's budget hearing.
02:36 In an interview, the Comelec Laban was also involved in a vote buying
02:40 in the midst of the upcoming 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
02:46 Now, if we see something, even if it's just on social media,
02:49 someone sent us pictures, we will show them.
02:52 It's better for our fellow countrymen to have a strong heart to complain.
02:58 So, for those who are just now offering payment,
03:01 or offering cash or in-kind, or just a promise, that is a vote buying.
03:07 Last night, the National Youth Commission and National Commission on Indigenous Peoples
03:13 also joined the budget deliberations.
03:15 After the last hour, their budget proposals were also included in the committee level.
03:22 Melalas Moras for the morning show of the country, Rise and Shine, Philippines.
