Birmingham headlines 1 March: Teachers continue strike action across the region
Tens of thousands of teachers across England and Wales continue strike action in the long-running dispute over pay. 400 schools in Birmingham close or partially close as teachers walk out across the Midlands. More regional strikes will take place later this month.

The amount of rough sleepers across England have risen for the first time since 2017. In Birmingham figures show 39 people were estimated to be sleeping rough – up from 31 the year before. Birmingham City Council described the situation as "disappointing" and said the lifting of Covid restrictions had impacted the rise.

A 15-storey high rise building in Birmingham was evacuated after it flooded. The building in Guild Close flooded on Tueday and the residents had to be evacuated temporarily while firefighting crews dealt with the incident.
