On top of the virtual shutdown after 9PM, Seoul city is also canceling the annual bell-ringing ceremony at Bosingak Pavilion set for the end of the year.
The city was trying to hold the event by reducing its size, but officials decided to cancel the year-end celebration due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
Launched in 1953, it's the first time the event has been cancelled in its 67 year history.
However, city officials plan to pre-record a private ceremony for the public to watch at their convenience.
