UN projects 230 million people will need humanitarian assistance in 2021, up 40% y/y

In any global crisis,.. it is the most vulnerable people that are the first to feel the impact,...and the last to recover.
COVID-19 has generated a record number of such people globally that are in immediate need of help.

Kyung-eun, tell us more.
Mok-yeon, the situation is "desperate" for millions of people in developing countries,... that are seeing growing famine and poverty.
The UN says a record 2-hundred-30 million people will need humanitarian assistance in 2021.
That's a staggering 40-percent increase on-year.
And it's almost entirely attributed to the impact of COVID-19.
The agency appealed for 35 billion dollars,... to help the world's most fragile people in 56 countries.
It pointed out poor countries' lack of ability to inject massive economic stimulus to help themselves,... unlike rich countries.
It added that funds are needed to keep affected children vaccinated and educated,.. while ensuring those countries have enough preventive equipment.
