At the National Assembly, South Korean lawmakers are expected to vote this evening on next year's government budget,... which is worth some 558 trillion won, or around half a trillion U.S. dollars,... the biggest budget in Korean history.
The big question is whether it will go through by the legal deadline, which is today.
If so, it would be the first time for that to happen in six years.
In negotiating the final bill on Tuesday, lawmakers added another 2-point-2 trillion won,... which means that for the first time in 11 years,... the final budget is bigger than what the government first proposed.
The extra money is for a third round of COVID-19 relief funds and the purchase of vaccines.
