Tesla unveils plans to reduce battery cell costs while continuing purchases from partners

American electric car maker Tesla has been showing off its latest battery cells at its "Battery Day".
It claims its new batteries are six times more powerful and last 16 percent longer than before.
CEO Elon Musk said the firm's long term goal is to use its new technologies to reduce the price of its batteries by 56 percent,... which could help make an affordable autonomous electric car within three years.
Despite his ambitious plans, Musk previously tweeted that Tesla intends to increase, not reduce battery cell purchases from its partner companies including South Korea's LG Chem to meet demand.
