Even more doctors across the nation are expected to participate in a full-scale strike starting Wednesday, despite a recent surge in cases of COVID-19.
Doctors, including interns, residents and practitioners at local clinics are planning a three-day walkout in protest of the government's healthcare reform plans.
But, it is feared that Wednesday's move will have even more of an impact on the already burdened healthcare system...as delayed and even canceled surgeries have been reported as a result of the most recent walkout.
The government had proposed an increase to medical school admission quotas as well as a public medical school to broaden the reach of the nation's healthcare services.
However, the Korea Medical Association argues that increasing the number of physicians would only lead to more competition and would not help regional shortages of medical professionals.
