President Moon Jae-in expressed hope today that the South Korean economy will see positive growth in the third quarter of this year through efforts by both the public and private sectors.
In a meeting with his top aides,... he said despite the contraction in the second quarter,... the country fared better than the other members of the OECD and is on course to recovery.
The government will deploy all possible policy measures with exceptional resolve to ensure we do not lose the opportunity for an economic rebound in the third quarter. We ask the people to trust in the government and muster their efforts for a successful economic recovery.
The South Korean economy shrank 2-point-9 percent on year in the April to June period this year.
President Moon said Asia' fourth-largest economy can expect a rebound on increased domestic spending spurred by the government's emergency relief funds, a pick up in domestic travel and exports.
He added that the Korean New Deal will also help support the economy -- through job creation and expanded investment.
