The amount of unemployment benefits paid out in South Korea last month rose to a record high. According to the labor ministry, the government paid 1-point-1 trillion won -- or a little under a billion U.S. dollars -- in state unemployment allowances last month. That's an increase of nearly 63 percent on year. The figure has broken record after record since February because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry explained,... that not only have many Koreans lost their jobs... but the government has increased the budget for unemployment.... and the length of the benefits since last year.
