Drive-in concert at Gyeongbokgung Palace

The COVID-19 outbreak has put the brakes on performances and concerts that involve large crowds.
Now because of this, some event organizers are resorting to a new trend -- holding drive-in concerts.
Spectators can enjoy the performance and display their reactions... from the comfort of their own cars.
Arirang's Kim Do-yeon went to Gyeongbok-gung Palance... to check one out himself.
Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Cultural Heritage Administration have opened a series of drive-in musical concerts.
At the outdoor parking lot of Gyeongbokgung Palace, artists perform in front of parked cars.
The organizer said the artists combined traditional music with other genres to create something unique.
"There are a lot of Korean traditional music artists that have incorporated other types of music, including reggae, rock and jazz. Mixed with traditional Korean music, these genres are recreated for not only Koreans but also for people from around the globe."
The first concert was held last Thursday and there are a series of concerts coming up, running from Thursday, July 16th to Sunday 19th.
"As well as listening to the music through a designated radio frequency, passengers can roll down their windows and listen straight from the concert’s speakers. With cars parked at a distance, they can enjoy the summer breeze and feel the atmosphere of a music concert."
Instead of clapping, drivers flash their emergency lights and swing their windshield wipers to show their appreciation.
With only 50 cars per show and no booking fee, the shows sold out quickly.
"This was a different experience. I wanted to dance, yell, and get out of the car… so I felt bad for the artists."
The organizer said he was excited to see such attention and added that the organization is planning more events so the public can enjoy traditional Korean music.
