President Moon says May 18 Democratic Movement should be inscribed in constitution

Marking the 40th anniversary of the May 18th Democratic Movement, President Moon Jae-in attended a commemorative event, which for the first time was held in front of the May 18th Democracy Square in Gwangju, the heart of the movement.
During this morning's event, President Moon paid respect to the people who fought for the nation's democracy, and expressed hopes to inscribe the historic value and significance of the Gwangju movement into the nation's constitution.
"Inscribing the May 18 Democratic Movement into the Constitution symbolizes that it stands as an undeniably great event in South Korean history.
President Moon also promised his utmost support in the investigation to find the truth behind who was responsible for the use of military force against the Gwangju demonstrators.
He said if the wrongdoers reveal the truth, there can be forgiveness and reconciliation.
He also vowed to continue efforts to search for the missing as well as compensate and restore the honor of the victims.
