To better contain the coronavirus in the country, South Korea will use electronic wristbands on people who violate self-quarantine measures.
At a government briefing on Saturday, South Korean Prime Minister Chung Se-kyun said the decision comes after the number of self-quarantine violators continues to rise...as some violators go outside without notice and don't answer phone calls.
The new measure, however, will only apply to those violators who agree to it.
Despite concerns that the new measure may violate human rights, Chung highlighted that the latest act is much needed and necessary to stop the spread of the virus.
On top of the electronic wristbands, the government also plans to strengthen the monitoring of people in self-quarantine by regularly checking up on them.
