Japan's trade restrictions to be discussed at WTO's General Council meeting: Nihon Keizai Shimbun
  • 5 years ago
A Japanese newspaper reported Sunday that Tokyo's export curbs on Korea will be brought up later this month at the WTO General Council.
According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the council will convene on July 23rd and 24th in Geneva.
There, South Korea's envoy, Paik Ji-ah, is expected to demand that Tokyo either fully justify the export restrictions or completely withdraw them.
The newspaper predicts that Japan will likely argue again... that the measures are based on legitimate security concerns.
According to the report, Korea had requested that the issue be on the agenda.
