SUVs take up almost half of South Korean car market

Sport utility vehicles have been gaining popularity here in South Korea in recent years... and now take up almost half of domestic car sales.
According to industry data, sales of recreational vehicles like SUVs so far this year... accounted for roughly 290-thousand units out of a total of 610-thousand cars sold.
Both domestic and imported SUVs are popular, but sales of Korea-made SUVs rose 12 percent compared to the same period last year.
Sales of smaller vehicles, on the other hand, dropped by around 19 percent during the same period.
SUV sales are expected to keep rising, and by the end of the year, account for more than half of all sales.
