President Trump spends last day in Japan highlighting Washington-Tokyo alliance

During his joint press conference with the Japanese Prime Minister on Monday, President Trump stressed the two countries' ironclad alliance.
And this message was repeated again, as President visits Japan's largest destroyer.

On his final day in Japan, U.S. President Donald Trump further emphasized the importance of the Washington-Tokyo alliance.
According to multiple Japanese media, Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited a military base in Yokosuka, near Tokyo, and boarded the Kaga, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force's largest destroyer.
Tokyo is reportedly planning to refurbish the ship for it to function as an aircraft carrier, capable of carrying F-35B stealth fighter jets.
The two leaders also gave short speeches to some 500 American military personnel and Japanese Self-Defense Force personnel on the importance of their role and the alliance in the region.
"Our armed forces, trained and served around the world, including right here, very special in fact this is the only port in the world where an American fleet and an allied naval fleet are headquartered side by side. The American and Japanese sailors stationed in this bay are living testament of enduring power of our partnership."
The day before,... during his joint-press conference with Abe, President Trump announced that Japan intends to purchase 105 brand new F-35 stealth aircraft. He highlighted that the purchase would give Japan the largest F-35 fleet of any U.S. ally.
And such words and moves from Trump and Abe seem to show the ironclad alliance they share, which President Trump stressed is "a cornerstone of stability and prosperity in the region and all around the world."
The leaders are seen to have stressed their alliance,... in an effort to keep Japan's neighbors in check, especially as China is seeking to expand its military power in the South China Sea.
