S. Korea unveils plan to create additional 110,000 homes in Goyang and Bucheon

Areas in Goyang , Bucheon and two other cities have been selected as public housing sites for the third stage of South Korea's New Town Developments Plan.
The government will supply 110-thousand homes across these four areas in addition to the 190-thousand homes being created across Seoul and the surrounding region in the first two stages of the development in an effort to stabilize the housing market.
Dami, tell us more.
Hi Ji-yoon, with the government revealing the specific public housing sites, all eyes including investors' are on the largest sites in Goyang and Bucheon cities.
Last year, the government proposed the three-stage New Town Developments Plan,...aiming at building 300-thousand extra "low-priced but quality" homes to curb soaring house prices, particularly in and around Seoul.
Back in September and December, the government announced the sites for 190-thousand new homes, with the largest sites in Namyangju and Gwacheon. And in this third phase, Changneung-dong in Goyang and Daejang-dong in Bucheon will see 58,000 new homes constructed by 2022.
The sites for the first two stages were chosen based on the government's development plan. For the last stage,...was there any specific reason as to why these sites were chosen?
Being within a 30-minute commute of Seoul was the first qualification...and the sites in Goyang and Bucheon are within one kilometer of Seoul.
The ministry said it will further strengthen public transportation systems by extending existing subway lines and establishing new roads and bus rapid transit routes known as S-BRT.
The government also will create a family and work friendly environment with plans to run public schools and support start-ups.
Now for those who may be interested,... people can apply for the third-stage homes from 2022.
In addition,...in order to prevent market speculation, the sites and surrounding areas will be designated as Land Trade Authorization Areas.
That's all from me, Ji-yoon.
