At least 8 dead in U.S. Midwest deep freeze

A deadly arctic cold snap that's sweeping through the U.S. Midwest has now claimed the lives of at least eight people.
Temperatures are still lingering between minus 20 and minus 30 degrees Celsius in most parts, with the wind chill making it feel like minus 50.
Most services and operations have grinded to a halt in the region, including transport, schools, power lines and water pipes.
Several states have also declared states of emergency.
The deep freeze is expected to last for another day of two, before starting to warm up slightly.
