PM Lee calls for stronger measures on foot-and-mouth disease ahead of Lunar New Year

The South Korean government is warning people in Korea to stay away from farms affected by a recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
During his weekly meeting with ministers on Thursday, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon said the mass exodus of people for the Lunar New Year holiday will begin on Friday, and the further spread of FMD would be a serious problem.
The government has locked down the farms in question and culled the affected cattle since the outbreak.
The PM called on the agriculture ministry and other agencies to commit to stronger preventative measures for the next 24 hours to protect travelers.
The first outbreak was confirmed on Monday at a milk cow farm in Anseong, some 75 kilometers south of Seoul.
