Ruling party plans to revise law to designate heatwave as natural disaster

The nation's ruling bloc vowed to step up efforts to revise a law on disasters and safety... to designate heat waves as a natural disaster.
If revised, the government will be able to provide systematic responses to areas affected by scorching conditions,... and provide compensation for related damages.
This comes as the sizzling high temperatures over the past few weeks,... resulted in numerous casualties, including more than 25 deaths.
The democratic party also stressed the need for realistic measures to help low-income households... as well as owners of small businesses burdened by rising power costs due to heat waves... such as revamping the electricity rate system... or giving tax refunds.
The lawmakers called for cooperation from the opposition blocs to help enable the ammendment, when the August extraordinary session begins.
